4 Fitness Tips to Get Ripped Six Pack Abs - Clark Answers Your Questions!

This Weird Trick Gets You Ripped: up, guys? It's Clark here with Six Pack Shortcuts. I get a lot of questions from people so I wanted to make a video to explain some of the answers so that you are better able to get ripped six pack abs and the body you deserve!

0:12 - "When is the best time to workout?" The easy answer is this: When you have the most energy. You don't wanna work out when you're kind of halfway performing the reps or not able to hit the workout with the right intensity. Some people that's morning, but for me personally, it's in the evening. Sometimes I'll even go at midnight or 2am.

0:42 Another question I get a lot is about stretching. "When should you stretch?" Well, the best time to stretch is when a muscle has been warmed up. Think of a rubberband or chewing gum and how much more elastic and flexible it becomes when it has been warmed up or worked out a little bit. Same thing with your muscles - you don't want to stretch a cold muscle. I tend to stretch all my muscles after I workout.

1:15 So what about warming up? Yes - absolutely warm up before your workouts. The best warm up in my opinion is whatever exercise you're about to do . If you're going to do squats, then do some with lighter weight. Or bench press - do bench, with lighter weight. If it's rows - same thing! Use lighter weight before you get into the actual sets.

1:40 Another question: Best time to do cardio? Well your body uses different sources of energy for fuel; protein, carbohydrate, and fats. But your body's main source of fuel is going to come from carbohydrates; glycogen, glucose - that's what your body uses for fuel. So if you were to get up right now, let's say you didn't do anything all day... and you ran for 30 minutes and burned 300 calories, does it mean you burn 300 calories from fat? No. It just means you burned 300 total calories in general and a majority of those calories are from carbohydrates because that's what your body has readily available and that's what our bodies like to use for fuel.

2:23 So you have people that do cardio every day and don't lose an ounce of fat and they wonder why? Because they're burning off calories and putting them right back into their body.

2:33 So how do you force your body to use fat for fuel instead of sugars and carbs? The answer is to not have an abundance of carbohydrates in the first place. You don't want to be carb loaded all day long so when you do your cardio, all you're doing is burning off what you already have in your body. So if your body doesn't have an abundance of carbs in the first place, then it's going to switch to a back-up source of energy, which is either going to be protein or fat - but hopefully you're burning fat and not protein. You don't want to lose your muscle mass.

3:05 Back to the question - When is the best time to do cardio? It's gonna be immediately after your workout when you're done lifting, when you're kind of tired because you've already depleted the primary source of fuel (glycogen) because at that point, your body will switch to it's backup sources of fuel. After your work out, don't leave the gym - and knock out some cardio.

3:26 Another good time to do cardio is right when you wake up in the morning because it's the longest gap that you go without having a meal Your body is already in a semi depleted state and you might be a little more efficient at burning fat.

3:55 That's all the questions that come to mind right now but if I think of something else or somebody runs into me later today and asks me a question, I'll be sure to answer those in the next video!

Top 5 Ab Exercises For Men Over 40 -- With Clark Bartram

Don't Let Your Age Limit Your Fitness: everyone,

My name is Clark Bartram, and I'm here today filling in at Abs After 40, because well, I am over 40 and we all want to get great abs right?!

Today I'm going to show you 5 of my favorite ab movements.

The first one is hanging leg raises, and this is going to work your abs of course, but it's also going to integrate the use of your hip flexors. For these, I'll usually do about 3 sets of 10-20 reps, whatever burns them out. Don't forget the key part of this - blow all your air out before you contract your abs and bring your legs up.

If you want to really isolate your abs and not allow your hip flexors to become integrated into the hanging leg raise movement, you can start with them already contracted and your knees raised, and then do a hard crunch with your abs to raise your hips up.

I also want to show you guys the proper way to do cable crunches - because most guys I see doing this are doing it incorrectly. You want to focus on the crunching movement from your sternum to your belly button. Most guys, when they're doing cable crunches.... They're really doing most of the work from their hips. To do this correctly, keep the cables right at your forehead, and like I said - just focus on that sternum to belly button movement.

We can also stay on the cable machine so that we can do side cable crunches and really work on those extra little muscles that tie into the abs that really set a ripped midsection apart from simply just having six pack abs. Hold the cables with both hands on one side, and even though it's a small movement.... Just squeeze those muscles on the side and tightly crunch that little section.

Next up, we're going to try hanging leg raises again, except this time we're going to crunch slightly to the side to get those obliques and serratus muscles again.

Last thing - to really focus more on the lower abdominal muscles (although to see those abs you really need to focus better on your clean eating).... We're doing weighted V-ups, attaching a cable strap around the ankles.

What You SHOULD Be Doing To Get Six Pack Abs

Stop wasting your time with the wrong kinds of exercises: guys,

It’s Clark and henry, your fat loss trainers, and today we’re showing you how to get a ripped physique and abs.

And we painted ourselves to show you the muscle groups that are activated in certain exercises.

The reason why is to show you which exercises activate the most muscle at the same time.

If you didn’t know, the more muscle you activate... the more calories you burn.

Now - the two types of exercises we’re going over are compound and isolation.

Compound movements are exercises that activate 2 or more muscles at once... while isolation exercises only focus on a small muscle group.

For example... I see tons of guys doing bicep curls everyday,

But that’s actually one of the best examples of an Isolation exercise… and it hardly burns ANY calories.

Now compare that to this simple compound exercise - the squat...

Here, Henry is using like 20 times more muscle, from his legs, to his back.

So now you know: to burn the most fat, you need to focus on specific compound exercises.

Before we show you some other examples…

I made another video showing you different workouts that use the best compound exercises for beginners and advanced guys - so you can burn fat FASTER.

So If you're ready to start getting rid of your belly fat the most effective way...

Stop using the wrong exercises that are burning little to no fat and try my new compound training workouts.

You can see that free training video at so here’s another exercise I see guys doing all time: side raises for your shoulders.

If you want great medial delts, this is a great exercise.

You can do other variations too… but it’s still only targeting a very small muscle group in your shoulder.

What I would do instead….deadlift.

This another one that requires a ton of muscle…. Not just from your shoulders, but also your leg muscles... lats... rhomboids... arms...

I mean, you name it.

On top of burning more fat, working multiple muscle groups at the same time can trigger a HUGE spike in hormone production...

Especially in your key fat burning hormones - leptin and testosterone.

In fact, this hormone boost is even more important than the calories you’ll burn during your workout.

Yep. The thing is….

Burning calories during your workout IS important...

But it’s just not enough if you wanna get rid of your belly quickly.

The thing is…. If you are able to increase the production of your key fat burning hormones...

Your body will naturally burn more fat throughout the entire day...

... not just during your workouts.

And when you’re trying to get ripped faster.... every bit helps.

3 Simple Testosterone Boosting and Fat Burning Exercises For Men Over 40

Thousands of men over 40 are transforming their bodies with this: guys, it's Clark Bartram here and I'm with a new friend and client, Joe Barlam. Today, I'm going to teach him how to make the most out of his time in the gym.

Joe had an athletic background in his past and played a lot of sports... And still does. However, once he hit 40, things just sort of changed. He still plays in a bar softball league and exercises regularly, however it hasn't really been enough to keep the belly fat off.

So what I want to do with Joe today is show him how to make the most out of his time here in the gym, not wasting time doing exercises that won't be benefitting him, and make sure that the exercises he's doing are going to keep him safe and functionally fit so he can continue to do them long after he's done here.

What we do here at Abs After 40 is use our program to maximize your time in the gym. Who really wants to spend over an hour in the gym? I can get you in and out of the gym in 20 minutes using compound movements that can still change your body and physique, keep you functional, and help you get that stubborn belly fat off.

Compound movements, in case you didn't know, are the opposite of isolation movements. Compound movements involve using more than one muscle group. So instead of a bicep curl, you would do a pull up. The bicep curl only uses your bicep, while the pull up involves a lot of different muscles from the back and also the arms.

Before starting any exercise program, of course, make sure you're being safe and make sure you consult your physician beforehand.

Workout Breakdown:

5:56 - Deadlift Demonstration: Walk to the bar. Stand with your mid-foot under the bar. Don't touch it with your shins yet. Bend over and grab the bar with your hands directly outside of your legs. Legs should be about shoulder/hip width apart. Bend your knees. Keep going until your shins touch the bar and your butt comes down. Lift your chest. Straighten your back, and Pull straight up, pushing your heels and midfoot into the ground. You should end up standing completely straight with chest up, shoulders back, and legs straight.

10:49 - Squat Push Press Demonstration: Using a shorter bar, we're going to pick it up and put it in a position where it's basically resting on our chest, but also your hands underneath it will support it. With Legs slightly wider than shoulder width apart, you will start the movement. From here, you're just going to drop your butt straight down, pushing your knees to the outside of your body (never let them dip inward) and once you reach the bottom of the squat (your hips should end up below your knees but this may not work for some people, so you don't have to go that low), powerfully push yourself back to standing while also pressing the barbell above your head. Make sure to always keep good posture during this movement, keeping your abs tight and your chest up. From the top of the position, just slowly lower the barbell back down and go into your next repetition, squatting down again.

12:50 - Joe's attempt, additional coaching. Make sure to keep your weight in your heels and the middle of the foot rather than the toes. This movement is great because we're working just about every muscle in the body, from the legs, arms, shoulders, and core for stabilization.

17:40 - Lunge-Curl Demonstration: Stand holding a light dumbbell in each hand and step forward into a lunge with your left leg (lower your body until your right knee nearly touches the floor). At the bottom of the lunge, curl those dumbbells up, and lower them as you push yourself back to the starting position. Make sure that as you lunge, your bent knee stays behind the toe (of the leg that you are stepping forward with).

I want to note that Joe wasn't using any crazy heavy weights. Let's remember that Rome wasn't built in a day and the first thing we need to do is make sure we're getting the movement correct first - then we can increase the weight and continue working on the strength.

You absolutely need to take things slowly and avoid getting hurt, because getting injured by having a big ego is just going to set you back further in approaching your goals.
